Visual arts international touring exhibitions

There are almost no audiences in Burma for western art forms other than film, and so the British Council particularly enjoys taking part in the annual European Film Festival. This has grown, by Burmese standards, into a unique event where it is possible to see films other than the ubiquitous American and Indian blockbusters. This year's festival ran from 1 to 7 March at the Nawaddy Cinema, with large audiences attending every screening.

Contemporary films from UK, Germany, France and, this year's organising country, Italy were shown to large audiances. The variety and style surprised Burmese used to the ubiquitous Hollywood and Bollywood blockbusters.
