German hospitality programme
15 November - 3 December 2004
(England, Scotland and Wales only)

Teachers from Germany visit schools in England, Scotland and Wales for three weeks to observe the teaching of languages and other subjects. The German teacher is technically attached to the host school or college as an observer rather than a teacher, although both visiting and receiving staff tend to favour more active participation. Visiting teachers either teach English or have a sound knowledge of the English language. Teachers hosting need not be teachers of German but those intending to make a return visit should have a working knowledge of German.

Benefits to you:
  • Ideal opportunity for Germanists to refresh their language
  • Fresh injection of genuine German culture into the school
  • Potential INSET for German teachers in the school
  • Opportunity to discuss current educational issues with a colleague
Arrangements

The German teacher on a Hospitality Visit is received either as a paying guest or on the basis of a return visit to Germany. Funding for return visits (minimum of two weeks) may be obtained from these sources:

  • EU education programme Comenius 2.2 under Socrates - Individual Training Grants (formally the Lingua Action B programme). For more information please go to the Socrates UK web site.
  • Anglo-German Teacher Fellowships: new opportunities for teachers from England to spend two weeks at a German school working on educational projects in specific areas of interest. Grants cover all expenses plus a contribution to supply costs. For more information please go to the Teacher Fellowships web page.
