English in Britain Accreditation Scheme

Why choose an accredited centre?

The English in Britain Accreditation Scheme monitors and improves standards of management, teaching, resources and welfare in organisations teaching English as a foreign language in Britain.

We do this through regular inspections (including unannounced spot checks). Each inspection leads to a report on the organisation's services and facilities. On the basis of this report, we make a decision as to whether the organisation should be accredited.

We make sure organisations provide quality provision, especially:

  • appropriately qualified teachers
  • teaching which meets the Scheme standards
  • accommodation, including homestays, which is regularly inspected and meets Scheme standards
  • 24- hour supervision of juniors
  • safe premises, with properly-equipped classrooms and areas for relaxation
  • brochures and publicity materials which accurately reflect what is provided
  • proper emergency procedures, known to staff and students
  • See what we check - the English in Britain Accreditation Scheme Inspection Criteria

If a student at an accredited organisation has a serious complaint, they should:

    • first discuss the matter with the school principal, proprietor or head of EFL.
    • if no satisfactory solution is found, then refer the complaint in detail and in writing to the Accreditation Unit at the address below.

The English in Britain Accreditation Scheme is committed to dealing with complaints effectively and efficiently.
