Becoming a member of the library

Membership is necessary for anyone wanting to borrow materials from the library and is available to all adults and students in grade 8 and above. Membership can be obtained by submitting a registration form (available from the library) and an annual fee of 30 Nakfa for regular membership and 20Nakfa for ELT mebership. The registration form requires the signature of a sponsor who may be a parent, employer or department head.

The terms and conditions for institutions wishing to join the library are set out in our Institutional membership page.

An ELT (English Language Teaching) section, holding items for students, English teaching staff and adults with an excellent English laboratory is now on service.

What are the terms and conditions of membership ?

Individual members are allowed to borrow up to four items at any one time: three books for a period of two weeks and one audio visual item for one week. Daily fines on overdue items will be charged at 10 cents for each book and 25 cents for audio visual materials. Under exceptional circumstances it could be possible to arrange an extended loan period if agreed in advance with the Library and Information Manager.

Items can be renewed in person or by telephone as long as another library member has not reserved them. Reservations can be made by completing a reservation slip at the Returns Desk. You will be informed by telephone when the item becomes available and it will then be held for two or three days.
