The National Science and Technology Education Centre (NSTEC) developed from a travelling exhibition that arrived in Ethiopia in May 1993. Commissioned by the British Council, this exhibition was called 'Exploring Science'. The exhibition toured the country and was shown in major cities. It attracted a wide variety of audiences including school children, teachers, scientists, parents, government officials etc.

NSTEC, located in the Ministry of Education, developed from this exhibition. It is based on the concept of interactive science learning and is meant for the use of students and the general public. Visitors are encouraged to stand on the exhibitions, talk to them, listen to them, move them, throw things at them, etc. NSTEC exists so that visitors can experience science rather than just being told about it or reading about it.

Visiting hours to the Centre: Tuesday to Saturday, 0900 to 1500
