The British Council contributes to health development (including HIV/AIDS awareness) in Ethiopia particularly through institutional strengthening.

The British Council's work in this field includes:

  • supporting THET (Tropical Health and Education Trust) in its work with Jimma Institute of Health Science and Gonder College of Medical Science;
  • managing the primary health books project to bring key health texts to local Health Centres and Hospitals.
  • supporting HIV/AIDS awareness schemes through assistance in materials production; study visits to UK or appropriate regional venues;
  • supporting for Addis Ababa Medical Faculty through higher education links, in internal medicine, radiology, paediatrics, surgery and pathology;
