This is a selective summary of the Council's work in governance in the UK and worldwide last year. It also details how we allocated our grant expenditure between different regions.
- The Good Government exhibition
An exhibition showing the fundamentals of 'good government' which is frequently used to illustrate the Council's overseas activities. It focuses on accountability, transparency, public service standards (the Citizen's Charter), efficiency indicators, legitimacy, and human rights.
- How the media can promote democracy
The proceedings of a major conference held in February 1997 which explored the potential impact of the media on the democratisation process in development and transistional nations. A comprehensive and regularly updated directory of key media funding and training organizations and individuals is also provided.

A summary of British Council sponsored activity in this area worldwide.
