Young Lawyers' Scheme summary

Baltic states

Cameron Scholarships
Duration: Annually
Description: Funds two Lawyers from the Baltics in Scotland. The two award holders are regarded as part of the Edinburgh EYLS (see European YLS) and the funding costs are similar to those of the EYLS.

China

Chinese Young Lawyers Scheme
Duration: Annually
Description: Fourteen young lawyers attend an English and Law course held at the School of African and Oriental Studies, London. (TCT run) They spend eight weeks on the SOAS course; seven months training and attachment, then six week attachments in Hong Kong.

Commonwealth

Commonwealth Young Lawyers Scheme
Duration: Annually
Description: Fifteen young lawyers attend a six month programme at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London, comprising academic course and attachments with firms of solicitors

Europe

European Young Lawyers Scheme
Duration: Annually
Description: Six month programme that takes place in either Edinburgh or London. It introduces young lawyers from Europe to English and Scottish law. It is held in the College of Law in London or the University of Edinburgh, then working attachments to solicitors' and barristers firms.

India

Indian Young Lawyers Scheme
Duration: Annually
Description: Twelve young lawyers attend a six month programme at the College of Law, University of York comprising academic course and attachments with firms of solicitors

Russia

Russian Young Lawyers Scheme
Duration: to be announced
Description: A new scheme, hoping to be launched in August 1998, aiming to meet the specific needs of the emerging legal profession in Russia, with possibility of expansion into FSU countries at a later date. Six month duration.
