Participative Democracy

Our work in Participative Democracy promotes the understanding and positioning of the UK, enhancing rights, equality, inclusion and diversity through partnerships with civil society, development and democratic government and specifically the areas of electoral reform, democratic audit, media, e-governance, arts and social development.

We also ensure that the Scottish experience and expertise in law, governance, equality and human rights is reflected in the British Council's governance work.

Project Example

In 2001/02 a British Council capacity building project for journalists in Bangladesh contributed to greater access and promoted freedom of expression and advocacy for justice.
