Council publications in governance
- Governance sector policy
Summarizes the British Council's aims and objectives in the field of governance. It also examines the Council's services and capability in governance and shows how it works with its key sponsors to acheive its objectives.
- Capability statement in governance
Summarizes the work of the governance team and the Council's recent activities on a country by country basis. It also analyses some of the problems arising in international cooperation in governance, and the characteristics of the British Council relevant to their resolution.
- Briefing documents
The British Council has commissioned a series of briefing documents which summarize various aspects of governance in the UK. They identify the main milestones in UK policy and practice; review evidence of performance and impact; raise questions worthy of further research, and give details of suggested further reading.
- Good Government
Analyses the various components of the concept of 'good government'.
- Public sector reform: briefing notes
A brief review of the main reforms of the last two decades in the British public sector. These include changes in central and local government and the large 'Quango' sector.
- Bibliography on UK governance
An annotated list of publications providing information and commentaries on governance in Britain. This was commissioned earlier this year by the British Council from Ivor Shelley, the Secretary of our Working Group on Access to UK Governance. Ivor has a lifetimes experience of British public administration, and the documents have been carefully selected in consultation with specialists in the field to provide the clearest, most comprehensive yet accessible guide to public policy in the UK.
