The following events were proposed by BC offices as a marketing tool for the UK publishing industry as well as adding value to other Council activities. Please note that this list is subject to additions and amendments throughout the year.
Human Rights: To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human Rights, Publishing Promotion will be preparing a standard exhibition of about 200 publications on the theme of Human Rights for British Council offices in: Bangladesh, China, Croatia, Eastern Adriatic, Hungary, Indonesia, Nigeria, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda, WestBank/Gaza.
Health: To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the UK's National Health Service and one hundred years of tropical medicine in the UK, we will be preparing standard exhibitions for British Council offices in: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cyprus, India, Italy, Nigeria, South Africa.
Virtual Exhibitions: Our first Virtual Exhibition on Prize-winning books of the 1990's went live in May 1998. This was followed by one on ELT while the third (and current) exhibition is on International Student Editions The fourth exhibition is due to go live at the beginning of January 1999.
To celebrate thirty years of The Booker Prize, Publishing Promotion have created a special virtual exhibition, The Booker @ 30, to mark this event. The site can be viewed at http://www.britcoun.org/virtual/booker and details: winners and shortlisted authors 1969 - 1998; bibliographic details, synopses and biographical information and online ordering facilities through The Book Pl@ce, Book Data's Internet Bookshop service.
