We work to support the teaching and learning of English in Yemen.
Our work includes training and support for teachers of English, provision of resources, advice to school owners, and projects to help young Yemenis improve their English.
The British Council offers a number of programmes for teachers of English from the public and private sector.
Each month we run two-hour workshops on practical aspects of English teaching. In addition, we run an annual programme of teacher training workshops in partnership with the Ministry of Education. These courses are run exclusively for government school teachers of English, and are run at different regional training centres throughout Yemen.
We are also exploring a number of projects to offer professional development to teachers of English. These include offering tailored teacher training short courses for targeted institutions, as well as exploring ideas for certification of teachers of English in Yemen.
For more information on any of these ideas, please contact Tanya Al Ameer.
We make available materials for teachers and learners of English.
These materials include videos, audiocassettes, textbooks, and reading material designed to improve one's English. These materials are being re-located to locations outside our office where existing and new members may access them. Details will be posted on our web site.
One initiative to create opportunity for young people throughout Yemen to improve their use of English is the broadcasting of Look Ahead, BBC's Self Study English Language Course. Look Ahead is a complete English Language course for the independent learner in an international world. It is designed for adults and teenagers and it is a series of 60 episodes that take the student from Beginner to Upper Intermediate level.
If you are interested in learning English in the UK, there are more than 300 accredited English language schools throughout the UK. Details of these schools and how to contact them are available on the following web sites.
